A richly modelled ceramic jug in the Gothic Revival style, featuring pointed arches, tracery panels, and sculptural detailing evocative of cathedral architecture. The design—registered on 17 March 1842—is attributed to Charles Meigh, a prominent Staffordshire potter active in Hanley during the mid-19th century.

Provenance: This example bears the applied registration mark to the undersideof the base: “REGISTERED / March 17th, 1842, / By CHARLES MEIGH, / Hanley.”  - identical to the stamp found on a similar jug bearing "The Apostle" design.

The Gothic Windows motif is illustrated in the following publications:

Henrywood RMJ/108–09; and

Hughes 1/46 (Charles Meigh)

Charles Meigh succeeded Job Meigh & Son, appearing in Hanley directories from 1835 to 1846, followed by:

Meigh, Son & Pankhurst (1850–1852); and

Charles Meigh & Son (1851–1861)

A total of seven jug designs are recorded from the Charles Meigh period, with six attributed to Charles Meigh & Son.

Condition: Please refer to the images. The spout has been restored. Aside this, the jug overall bears no other traces of restoration.

Dimensions: Approx. 17.8 cm high (7 inches)

This is a fine example of early Victorian Gothic Revival pottery, this jug captures the architectural imagination of the 1840s with precision and flair. For collectors of Charles Meigh, Gothic design, or registered 19th-century ceramics, it offers both historical depth and sculptural presence.
