A 19th-century German antique brass candlestick of rise-and-fall design, featuring a toothed “saw” stem and adjustable candle platform. The mechanism allows the candle height to be raised or lowered by sliding the collar along the serrated shaft, secured by a side clamp.
The brass has aged to a warm, golden tone with surface wear and oxidation in the recesses. Terminating on a circular repousse-worked brass stand with a wooden base below that is weighted and stable, with a sculptural silhouette and utilitarian charm. Likely produced for domestic or tavern use, combining mechanical ingenuity with decorative appeal.
A rare survival of 19th-century Continental lighting — ideal for collectors of brassware, mechanical antiques, or sculptural candleholders.
