Made by a sailor to whileaway time whilst at sea, this decorative piece of treen has been formed by hand in to a seam rubber.

This piece was made during the 19thC but was never intended for use. It was made purely for decoration to show the art of the sailor.

Seam rubbers that were purposed for such a task were used to smooth the seams sewn into sheets of sail canvas.

With an acorn carved finial over a grooved-spiral handle, terminating in a shaped wedge with decoratively carved quatrefoils to the upper edge.
