A rare and whimsical 19th-century English salt-glazed stoneware whisky flask, cleverly formed in the shape of a pistol and dated 1882. This novelty flask would have served both as a functional vessel and a conversation piece, reflecting the Victorian taste for humour and craftsmanship in everyday objects.
The flask is moulded in the form of a flintlock-style pistol, complete with trigger and barrel detailing. A hollow interior allowed it to be filled with spirits, typically sealed with a cork stopper at the muzzle. The salt glaze gives the surface a rich, variegated sheen in earthy tones, with the date “1882” clearly impressed to one side.
Such flasks were often produced in Staffordshire and other pottery centres, and were popular as gifts or tavern curiosities. This example is in good antique condition with minor wear and firing irregularities typical of the period.
