Late 19th Century English Antique Child's Educational Toy Clock Face / Teaching Aid Originating From Skeyton Primary School, Skeyton, Norfolk
A 19th-century teaching tool made as a clock face.
This simple piece of social history hung in the village school at Skeyton, Norfolk, England.
The village school, built in 1850 and extended in 1914, finally closed its doors in 1980. Local records indicate that in 1874 the Teachers were Mr. and Mrs. Harmer - attendance 39. In 1975, present Headmaster Mr. Johnson and Mrs. Chalmers - children 31. The school building fell into disrepair post-closure and was acquired and developed in to a private dwelling around 2018-19.
The clock is made from an old pitch pine board, possibly an old shop sales board, as it still carries an old 1 shilling numeral.
The clock face ground has been painted with old white paint that has now discoloured to a grey-brown time-worn colour. The chapter ring is painted in black and the Roman numerals in red.
The hands are made from recycled iron elements united by an iron bolt. The hands rotate easily by hand and can be set to any time.
