Meet this charming piece of history: an authentic 19th-century English Antique Captain's Chair, also known as a Smoker's Bow Chair.
Crafted from a beautiful combination of ash and elm, this chair showcases the robust, curved form characteristic of this style. Notice the lovely details:
- Curved Back and Arms: The deep, ergonomic curve of the back and arms would have been perfect for relaxing in a study or pub.
- Turned Spindles: The elegant, turned baluster spindles supporting the back and arms add a sophisticated, architectural detail.
- Ornate Central Splat: A key feature! The shaped and pierced central splat provides both comfort and a decorative flourish.
- Saddle Seat: The comfortable, shaped solid elm seat shows a deep, aged patination that only time can create.
This chair isn't just a seat; it's a piece of furniture history, bringing a touch of authentic, rustic elegance to any space.
Provenance - Found in a property in the home counties of the UK where it has been in the same family for the last four generations.
Condition - Please refer to the images. All joints are sound. It has a time-worn look which we believe should be left rather than restored as the chair hasn't been touched since the day it was made!
Size - Height x Width x Depth x Seat Height
