A decorative 19th-Century English antique apothecary's / chemist's beam scale.
With a brass finial and brass serpentine-shaped hinged lever (one end is attached to the iron balance beam with pointer and the other end, verso, is attached to a secondary lever below by way of old cord) and a brass multi-knopped stem below and is mounted on a mahogany base with single drawer and turned wooden handle. The secondary lever below can be pushed down and when done, the balance beam lifts upwards raising the two brass pans. Both pans are marked with the "Avery" stamp.
The single drawer opens to reveal an interior void of any fittings aside from two one-ounce weights and a half-ounce weight.
Provenance - Found in Walsingham, Norfolk, England.
