19th Century Italian Antique Marble Memento Mori
"Memento mori" is a Latin phrase meaning ‘remember you must die’. A basic memento mori sculpture or painting would be a portrait with a skull but other symbols commonly found are hourglasses or clocks, extinguished or guttering candles, fruit, and flowers.
This example dates to the 19th Century and is made from reconstituted marble and depicts a skull set upon a book.
Provenance - Sourced with East Anglia.
Condition - Good as per the images. No chips or cracks. This displays very well. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
