A characterful bank of drawers of 19th-century date, English or Welsh, sourced from the Welsh borders and almost certainly of workshop or merchant's origin — banks of this form were commonly employed for the storage of seeds, hardware, or shop sundries before finding favour as domestic furniture.
Of simple plank construction, the carcase houses sixteen drawers arranged in four rows of four, each fitted with a brass knob. The whole retains its original green-painted surface, now bearing an honest patina of age-related wear that speaks to a long working life and lends the piece considerable decorative charm.
Painted vernacular furniture in untouched original surface is increasingly sought after, and pieces of this scale are highly versatile — equally suited to a kitchen, hallway, study, or workshop setting, offering practical storage with genuine folk art appeal.
Provenance: Sourced from the Welsh borders.
Material: Pine with original green overpaint.
