Elevate your interior with this fine mid-18th century adjustable brass candleholder, a rare and elegant example of Georgian-era lighting design. Known as a "birdcage" or "stable" candleholder, this piece was thoughtfully engineered with fire safety in mind—featuring a protective cage of brass bars surrounding the candle socket to help prevent accidents if tipped.
The candleholder is mounted on a beautifully aged domed base, likely crafted from pearwood, a timber prized for its fine grain and warm, mellow tone. A natural shrinkage crack has developed over time, adding to the authenticity and character of the piece, while the base remains securely attached to the brass structure above.
The brass fittings are not only functional but also add a refined touch, distinguishing this candleholder as a luxurious and rare collector’s item. The adjustable mechanism is in excellent working order, allowing the candle height to be easily modified.
