This elegant 18th-century candlestick combines a beautifully turned lignum vitae stem with a finely cast brass candleholder and drip pan —a refined pairing typical of Italian domestic metalwork and hardwood turning of the period. The contrast between the rich, dark, naturally oily lignum and the warm gleam of aged brass gives the piece both sculptural presence and tactile appeal.
Standing at 28 cm (11 in) tall, the candlestick has a graceful silhouette with well‑balanced proportions. The turned stem displays the characteristic density and tight grain of lignum vitae, prized in the 17th and 18th centuries for its durability and deep colour. The brass elements retain an attractive mellow patina, enhancing the candlestick’s sense of age and authenticity.
A charming and functional decorative object, it works beautifully as a standalone accent or as part of a mixed group of period lighting.
Provenance: Italy. 18th century.
Material: Brass and lignum vitae (Italian turned hardwood). The holder features an ejection aperture, which makes the removal of a spent candle much easier.
Condition: Good antique condition with age‑appropriate wear and a warm, untouched patina to both brass and wood.
