An early-to-mid 18thC German antique stoneware jug, originating from Westerwald, Germany.

Made for the English market, these jugs enjoyed great popularity during the reigns of King George I (1714-1727) and King George II (1727-1760) as Georgius Rex (GR) is Latin for King George.

The neck is decorated in underglaze puce over a baluster-shaped body decorated in under-glaze blue, the medallion bearing the embossed initials "GR", surrounded by a border with floral rosettes and flanked by decorative scrolls., supported on a plain circular foot.

Provenance: From a UK-based private collection.

Condition - as per the images. This jug is in exceptional condition with no frits, cracks, or traces of restoration. The jug displays very well. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
