This handsome French antique chestnut chest, dating to the late 18th century, was originally crafted as a dough bin — a utilitarian vessel used for storing flour and preparing bread. Its robust construction and warm chestnut timber give it both durability and decorative appeal.
The chest features a hinged lid, panelled sides, and a deep interior, making it ideal today for storage or display in country house interiors. With its rich patina and rustic charm, it is a fine example of French provincial furniture, blending practicality with timeless design.
Provenance: Late 18th Century (c.1780–1800). France. Acquired directly from a private property in Norwich, England, where it was used for storing toys in a child's playroom. The previous owner had acquired this in France many years ago when living abroad.
Material: Chestnut timber.
