An 18th-Century English antique wrought iron downhearth "kettle tilt".
Made by a local blacksmith, these devices came into use in the 18thC, and would hang from a chimney saw (trammel) and suspend either an iron or copper kettle over a fire.
The kettle's contents could then be poured by raising the lever of the "tilt" thus eleviating the need to hold the kettle directly in one's hands.
This example has an adjustable holder for use with differing sized kettles and their associated handles.
