A rare surviving 18th‑century English antique wrought‑iron loom light, originally used to illuminate the work of a textile weaver during the Georgian period. Hand‑forged by a blacksmith, with a beautifully formed hanging hook, a decorative twisted stem, and a deep, conical candle holder, this example shows the honest wear and oxidised surface expected of true working metalware.
These lights were designed to clamp or hang near the loom, providing a focused flame to guide the weaver’s hands through fine, repetitive work. The elegant curvature of the arm and the practical bowl form speak to the marriage of utility and craftsmanship characteristic of rural English workshops of the era.
Provenance: England. 18th Century.
Material: Wrought iron.
Condition: Please refer to the images. There is surface oxidation, commensurate with age. The candleholder remains usable.
Dimensions: Length/Drop: cm ( inches)
