The ideal piece to decorate an old fireplace or inglenook!
An early 18th-century English antique iron trivet. Blacksmith-made. Placed down-hearth (the floor of a fireplace) or hung on the bargrate at the fireside and used as a stand to place pans and plates upon to keep warm from the heat of the fire.
With a rectangular, horizontal, horse-shoe shaped plate, decorated with scrolls. Supported on three longated legs; two of plain form and the other with a decorative twisted stem.
The trivet retains its original turned fruitwood carry-handle. This has built up a wonderful patination/surface skin from almost three centuries of use. The handle remains sound.
Provenance - Unknown.
Condition - Good as per the images. There is surface wear and pitting to the iron surface which is commensurate with age.
Size: 36 cm high x 28 cm high x 18 cm wide (14" x 11" x 7")
