An 18th-Century English antique elm six-plank boarded box / bible box.
Nailed construction.
The plank top with an applied edge of plain form over a plain front fitted with a brass escutcheon. The sides with later iron carry handles. The top, joined to the carcass by way of two original iron hinges (albeit re-fixed with later screws) opens to reveal an interior fitted with its original till. Supported overall on its original base with moulded outer edge.
Provenance - Found in a property in Fakenham, Norfolk, England.
