An attractive antique fruitwood spoon rack, complete with its sliding drawer and offered for sale with eight pewter spoons, all displaying the warm, mellowed colour and tactile wear that only long domestic use can produce.
The rack is shaped with a charming scalloped crest, a classic vernacular detail, and is pierced to accommodate nine spoons, leaving space for one additional example should a future owner wish to complete the set.
The fruitwood has developed a rich, glowing patina, with gentle handling wear to the edges and a beautifully aged surface. The drawer runs smoothly and retains its original character.
The eight 18th-century accompanying pewter spoons are early examples with shallow bowls and simple, practical handles, when pewter remained a staple in rural households before being gradually replaced by tinned steel and later electroplate.
A charming, decorative, and highly collectable piece of English kitchenalia.
Provenance: England. Late 18th-century, / early 19th-century.
Material: Fruitwood rack. Pewter spoons.
Condition: Good, used antique condition. Fruitwood with rich, warm patina. The backboard shows two honest condition notes:
1) An original securing nail that has just pierced through the upper left corner (barely noticeable in situ); and
2) A careless splash of old paint on the reverse — both entirely consistent with long domestic life and adding to the authenticity of the piece.
The pewter spoons have expected wear, marks, and age‑softened surfaces.
A wonderfully honest example with no modern refinishing.
