Occasionally you stumble across an item that makes the heart race.
Mine certainly did when I found this stunning, decorative, cast iron tobacco jar dating back to the second-half of the 18th-century.
Retaining much of its original polychrome (paint), the lid is capped with a finial in the form of a figure, standing full-length, in uniform and playing the bagpipes.
The carcass is cast to all four sides with typical forms of the period including a decorative pediment, figures, swags and scrolls and shell motifs.
Provenance - Unknown.
Condition - Please refer to the images. In good decorative order overall. There is a small element of oxidation to parts of the surface and wear as one would expect given its age.
Size - Width 13 cm x Depth 13 cm x Height including finial 26 cm (5 1/8" x 5 1/8" x 10 1/4")
