A striking 18th‑century Italian marble sculpture depicting a skull with crossed bones, carved from solid stone and mounted on a real marble base. The piece has a strong presence and crisp anatomical modelling, making it ideal for interiors, collectors of curiosities, or themed spaces such as gothic‑inspired displays.
The skull is carved with deep eye sockets, defined cheekbones, and a well‑modelled jaw, resting above a pair of crossed tibiae. The contrast between the polished surfaces and natural stone veining gives the sculpture a dramatic, tactile quality. This is a classic memento mori motif — a reminder of mortality that has appeared in European art for centuries.
