A rare survival from the Iberian Peninsula, this richly patinated leather box is bound with hand-forged iron straps and rivets, evoking the craftsmanship of mid-17th-century Spain. The russet-toned hide retains its original surface, worn smooth by centuries of use, while the ironwork displays the bold decorative strength typical of the period. Compact yet robust, it would have served as a secure container for valuables or documents, combining utility with artistry. The interior is devoid of any fittings, aside from a decorative lining paper on the inside of the lid.
