A mid-17thC English antique oak backstool.
Attributed to Derbyshire/South Yorkshire, circa 1660.
Peg-joined construction.
With a crescent-shaped back support, supported by two square-cut, elongated, uprights with lobe-shaped finials.
With its original plank seat, supported on turned front legs united by a turned stretcher (beautifully worn with use over time), the back legs of square-cut form united by peripheral stretchers to the sides and back.
Provenance - Acquired from a private collection in Suffolk where it has remained for a number of decades.
Condition - Please refer to the images. Excellent patination and surface colour. All joints are sound. The chair is ready to go.
