A hand-forged antique iron barrel lock of large proportions.
Made during the 19th-Century but in 16th-Century style.
Continental in origin. Possibly Germanic.
With a substantial shank joined to the barrel by way of a single hinge and it's original ornate key with reticulated bow (handle).
A similar example is held In the collection of The Metropolitan Museum, New York, USA. Donate to the museum in 1910 via the Rogers Fund, item reference: 10.100.183
Provenace - Unknown.
Condition - Please refer to the images. The key no longer functions as it has snapped along its shank. Due to this, the lock itself and the shackel remains firmly closed.
