A 16th-Century antique oak torchere stand, circa 1500-1550 and possibly later.
The square pediment with stepped underside, on a square baluster-shaped supporting pillar and stepped cruciform base.
This is ideal as a period candlestand/torchere stand.
Provenance - Unknown. Sourced within Suffolk, England.
Condition - Please refer to the images. The pediment appears to have an additional plank, albeit period timber, placed above the original. The supporting pillar has been cut at its base and there is a vacant aperture which once accommodated a peg. The cruciform base appears to be of period but may have been associated given old iron nail marks that do not correspond to the rest of the piece. Overall, there is surface wear. Please remember this piece is in excess of 500 years so we do expect to see repairs and replaced parts. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
