An early 16th-century Spanish antique wooden box of rectangular form, bound in hand-forged iron straps with decorative rivets and a hinged lid. The wood has aged to a rich, dry tone with surface wear, oxidation, and traces of historic use. The ironwork is bold and sculptural, with a rhythmic arrangement of bindings and a working clasp.
Likely produced for secure storage of valuables or documents, this box combines Gothic utility with Iberian craftsmanship. Its compact proportions and robust silhouette suggest use in a domestic or monastic setting.
A rare survival of late medieval Spanish woodwork — ideal for collectors of Gothic furniture, iron-bound boxes, or Continental decorative antiques.
