A late 15th-century antique carved limewood sculptural fragment representing Saint Roch.
The fragment depicts the figure with his cape open and retains his right arm amd hand which points to his thigh and from this, we are able to determine which Saint it is.
Saint Roch is often depicted pointing to a plague bubo on his thigh to show that he welcomed his disease as a way to imitate Christ's suffering.
Presented on a shaped wooden ebonised socle.
Provenance - French origin. Prior ownership is unknown.
Condition - lacking head and the majority of his limbs. Please refer to the images. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
