An early 18th Century English School antique oil on board head and shoulders portrait of King Charles II, after the original full-length portrait painted by Sir Peter Lely.

Sir Peter Lely (14 September 1618 – 7 December 1680) was a painter of Dutch origin whose career was nearly all spent in England, where he became the dominant portrait painter to the English court.

Slightly naive and undertaken by an unknown artist.

Depicting King Charles II as a bewigged gentleman with long wig, typical of the period, with white lace stock, armoured breast plate and blue sash.

Presented in an associated gilt-gesso frame of 19th Century date.

Provenance: From the private collection of the late Richard Miller – a renowned Suffolk-based antiques dealer.

Condition - Please refer to the images.  The board has bowed over time.  The painting does however still display well.
