19th Century Style French Oil-on-Board Painted Armorial Panel

An armorial / coat of arms in the 19th Century manner.

The top banner bearing the motto "Atavis et Armis", meaning “by our ancestors and by arms," above a coronet and helm (helmet) flanked by foliate mantling. Below, two rampant lion supporters bear a shield (the arms are unidentified) over a bottom banner bearing the motto "Spes Mea Devs", meaning "God is my hope".

Each of the four corner spandrels of the panel are painted with a crown over two crossed processional maces.

French origin.

Oil on mahogany panel. The panels bears an inscription verso by the artist "L Lancelevee, Peintre Heraldiste a Paris, 28 rue de Matignon".

Presented in a reeded ebonised frame with gilt inner and outer edge.
