Rare Late 18th Century English Antique Treen and Iron “Sticking Tommy” or “Go-to-bed” Candlestick With Iron Wall Spike

An 18th Century antique candlestick of rare form. These were commonly of iron construction and used by miners whilst they worked in a coalmine. This example is rare in that it is constructed from both iron and treen (wood) and was used historically as a domestic "go-to-bed" - a candlestick that was carried to light the way to bed at the end of the day.

English origin.

With a wooden carry handle and stem of square form mounted with an iron sheet and single candlesconce, terminating in an iron spike which is designed to pushed into a beam or a wall.

Condition - as per the images.  Some minor surface oxidation to the metalwork is evident and there is some wear to the wooden handle too. A further condition report is available upon request.
