We offer for sale an early 19thC carved deal (pine) bust of Adonis, carved in the classical manner.

In Greek mythology, Adonis was the mortal lover of the goddess Aphrodite and Persephone, who was famous for having achieved immortality.

Purchased on the Grand Tour, this head would have been brought back to England by a wealthy gentleman as a memento of his trip.

Provenance - Ex private collection.

Condition - Good as per the images. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
