Hewn from a single piece of oak, we offer for sale a large 18thC antique burr oak dug-out mortar with its original pestle.
Naively formed, the centre has been dug-out to form the bowl. It is supported overall on a raised, circular foot.
The pestle is also formed out of a single tree branch.
The overall piece has a sculptural presence about it given its size and surface wear. The burrs in the timber also give this piece great texture.
This would look great as a piece of sculpture in its own right in a contemporary home. It would also grace any period home too.
Provenance - From a private Norfolk-based collection close to Castle Acre.
