A late 17thC English antique oak wool winder with 19thC carved applique in the form of a smiling face.
Attributed to the North-East of England, possibly Cumbria or the borders of North Yorkshire.
With six turned wooden spindles, each terminating with a bobbin, set into a central wooden axle, supported on a single stem. The stem is decorated with a turned wooden final. The front applied with a folk-art carved applique depicting a smiling head with fruit and foliage below. A single piece of oak forms the plank base with a moulded front.
Condition - Good as per the images. The wheel still functions fully. A further condition report is available upon request.
