A 17th century English antique elm six-plank boarded chest or coffer of elongated proportions. Possibly used as a sword chest.
Of nailed construction.
The plank top with scratch-carved decoration to the outer edges, over a single-plank front and shaped end-boards, again decorated with the same scratch-carved detail.
The lid opens to reveal an interior fitted with a till (possibly modified at a later date).
Original iron hinges, hasp and lock.
Provenance - Originating from Suffolk, England.
