To the reverse, the piece bears a maker's touchmark — as yet unidentified — together with a crowned X quality mark, denoting a harder alloy, a device which came into use in the late 17th century, and pseudo-hallmarks imitating silver assay marks in the manner characteristic of English chargers of this precise period.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\"\u003eThe maker, whilst unidentified, was clearly working within the established London or provincial guild tradition.
