A rare late 16thC German antique stoneware bellarmine jug or bartmannkrug, dated 1599.

Possibly made to celebrate and commemorate a marriage.

In salt glaze.

The elongated neck decorated with a typical bearded mask. The bulbous body bearing three armorial medallions bearing flowers and hearts and all dated “1599”

Condition – as per the images. The body and handle have had some restoration but it has been so well executed that it is very difficult to observe. The jug displays very well.
