Naive Late 17th Century / Early 18th Century French Antique Carved Oak Figural Panel Of Saint John

A large carved antique oak panel depicting Saint John.

French, Circa 1680-1720.

Depicted Saint John standing, holding a Bible with a Quill and symbolising the writing of his Gospel. At his feet is an Eagle.

The naivety of the carving may indicate that this was intended for a position high up in the church where fine detail would not be seen or may have been painted.

Condition – as per the images. There is age-related surface wear and losses to the outer edges. The carving displays very well. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
