A mid-19th Century antique treen tankard.
Constructed from oak staves bound with iron bindings and a hinged wooden lid.
The chip-carved lid is decorated with folk art to the upper surface with two male figures facing one another, holding their tankards in the air. The lid also bears a date of “1858”.
The underside of the lid is also naively decorated with folk art scratch-carving, incorporating crossed forks, coffee pot, crossed hammers, a table and pail. A name is also marked and possibly states “Sel Simon”.
Absolutely beautiful patination to the exterior surface.
Condition – Good as per the images.
