A mid-18thC antique wooden box of octagonal form. The outer surface is decorated in tooled leather with a brass escutcheon. Unusually, the lid also has a compass inset to the middle which could indicate that this may have been used as a travelling case by a Lady or a Gentleman. The lid reveals an interior complete with its original silk lining.

Condition – The leather has gained a wonderful colour and patination with age. There are minor traces of historic worm (long since inactive and treated too as a precautionary measure). The glass to the compass is complete but is cracked. The key is missing. A further condition report is available upon request.

Size: Width 16.5 cm (6 1/2″) x Depth 16.5 cm (6 1/2″) x Height 7 cm (2 3/4″)
