A late 18th Century antique brass candlestick of unusual/rare form.

The sconce formed as a cresset with decorative fretwork, over a knopped stem, terminating on a stepped circular lobbed base.

It is likely that the cresset would have had an oily rag placed within it which, would have been lit at night to provide light.
