Description
A Welsh antique oak coffer dating back to the latter part of the 16th Century.
Joined construction.
With a plank top above a nulled apron over two panels incised with diamonds and bullseyes (the central muntin also decorated with bullseyes).
The lower supporting muntin is carved with nulling.
Supported on raised stile feet, each decorated with punchwork decoration.
Original lock plate.
Void Interior.
Condition – missing hasp. Minor timber fillet to the lid where the hasp would have originally been, and the lid has an elongated timber fillet however these additions do not detract from this chest which still displays very well. The hinges have been replaced historically. Two additional batons have been added to the underside of the lid to give it further support.
