Late 16th Century Elizabethan Period English Antique Oak Boarded Chest or Coffer
A charming late 16th Century English antique oak boarded chest/coffer of six-plank construction.
With cut-out end boards, original lockplate, and remains of its original hasp. The lid opens to reveal an interior with its original till.
Condition – the left rear iron hinge joining the lid to the carcass is original and shows an old repair. The right hinge has been replaced with a hand-made copy of the original by our local blacksmith as the original could not be repaired (see image 6). There are some surface marks commensurate with age.
This chest has excellent skin overall and would look great in any setting.
