Description
A charming, beautifully executed, 18th century oil on canvas portrait of an aristocratic lady.
Undertaken by a follower of Thomas Bardwell (1704-1767).
The sitter and the artist are unknown albeit the portrait is clearly undertaken by an accomplished hand.
Presented in period gilt-gesso frame – possibly the original frame to the painting.
The painting bears a number of labels verso however these are very difficult to read.
Condition – Offered for sale as found. Clean and re-lined prior to our ownership. Some surface craquelure is apparent but is stable and this does not detract from the portrait which displays very well. Please refer to the images. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
Size: With the frame 91 cm x 80 cm (36″ x 31 1/2″) / Without frame 71 cm x 58.5 cm (28″ x 23″)
