A mid-17thC German antique stoneware bellarmine jug or bartmannkrug.
In salt glaze.
The elongated neck is decorated with a typical bearded mask. The bulbous body bears a decorative medallion.
Provenance: Ex-Watton Museum Collection, Norfolk, England. An almost identical example can be found in the reference book “The Bellarmine and Other German Stoneware – Volume III” – plate no. 17. Author Alex Wright.
Condition – as per the images. There is very minor restoration to the rim. A further condition report is available upon request. ย The jug displays very well.
