Description
An early 17thC Spanish antique carved oak sculpture depicting a cherub.
Presented with substantial traces of original gesso, polychrome and gilding. His right hand holding a pomegranate and his right foot raised over a flower.
Attributed to Juan Martínez Montañés, known as el Dios de la Madera, he was a Spanish sculptor, born at Alcalá la Real, in the province of Jaén. He was one of the most important figures of the Sevillian school of sculpture.
Condition – surface wear commensurate with age. Please refer to the images. This figure displays very well.
