Early 17th Century Miniature English Antique Carved Oak Maquette in the form of a Gothic Altar Chair, Circa 1618

A fine early 17thC English antique carved oak maquette (architects model) representing a Gothic altar chair. The back decorated with a gothic tracery-shaped cresting rail inset with dagger-formed apertures above a back carved with linenfold panelling, shaped sides and down-swept arms over a plank seat and planked base.

Verso, the chair bears an old label dated “1618 – John (Surname is difficult to read)”. Could this be the maker?

Lovely colour and patination.

Condition – surface wear commensurate with age. Please refer to the images. The base has been split and naively glue-repaired however this does not detract and the chair still displays very well. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
