Description
A pair of 15thC style English antique carved oak figures of humorous characters, by repute originating from Beverley Minster, Yorkshire, England. Given the style of the carving, whilst in the latemedieval manner, these are more likely to have been carved during the 19thC. The Minster does have a number of early characterful carvings in the Nave and these may well have influenced the wood carver who made the two now offered here for sale.
Presented on associated oak wall brackets of a similar period.
Each has a label verso which states “Oak carving from Beverley Minster”.
Condition – as per the images. Painted with dark varnish. PLEASE NOTE THAT PHOTOGRAPHIC SOFTWARE HAS BEEN USED TO REMOVE THE WOODEN WALL BRACKETS FROM A NUMBER OF THE IMAGES. THE CARVINGS WILL BE SOLD ATTACHED TO THE WALL BRACKETS. A further condition report is available upon request.
