19th Century Primitive / Naïve English School Antique Oil On Canvas Portrait Of A Squire Wearing A Bowler Hat

Description

A naïve 19th Century English school antique oil on canvas head and torso portrait of a squire, circa 1860.

Depicted wearing his bowler hat, with a typical beard of the period with black stock and white shirt, black waistcoat and brown jacket.

The sitter and artist are unknown however we like to refer to the subject as “Bob” for some reason!

Condition – historically cleaned and re-lined. The canvas shows two main areas of restoration and later over-paint (see images 9 and 10). These restorations do not detract from the portrait which displays well. This portrait is ready to hang. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
