18thC English Antique Steel Lark Spit
An 18thC English antique steel lark spit having six pairs of prongs to impale birds or other meats. These devices were placed in front of the fire grate / hearth where the meat would gradually cook.
This stand has the addition of a steel hoop too which was presumably used for holding a cooking pot or drip pan to collect the meat juices.
The spit and hoop can be moved up and down the steel shaft/stem (the shaft is decorated with a knop at the top). Supported overall on a tripod base.
Condition – good as per the images.
