18th Century Antique Wrought Iron Standing Rushlight Attributed to Wales or English Borders
18th Century Antique Wrought Iron Standing Rushlight Attributed to Wales or English Border
An 18th Century antique wrought iron standing rushlight.
With a knopped finial and plain stem with rise-and-fall rushlight with “parrot beak” jaw and single conical candlesconce. Supported on a tetrapod (four legged) base.
Attributed to Cardiganshire or Montgomeryshire in Wales or the border regions of the English county of Shropshire.
Condition – Offered in “barn found” original untouched condition. Surface pitting to the iron is commensurate with age. The nip does still hold itself to the stem at an angle but could do with a little tender loving care/repair to increase the tension/resistance! The tetrapod base has losses. This does have charm and offers a rare opportunity to acquire an original piece of primitive lighting at a very reasonable price.
Size: Height 79 cm (31″)
