Late 17th Century & Later English Antique Treen Wool Winder Attributed to the North-East of England.
A late 17thC English antique oak wool winder with 19thC carved applique in the form of a smiling face.
Attributed to the North-East of England, possibly Cumbria or the borders of North Yorkshire.
With six turned wooden spindles, each terminating with a bobbin, set into a central wooden axle, supported on a single stem. The stem decorated with a turned wooden final. The front applied with a folk-art carved applique depicting a smiling head with fruit and foliage below. A single piece of oak forms the plank base with moulded front.
Size: Height 66cm x Wheel Diameter 53cm x Depth 34 1/3cm (26″ x 21″ x 13 1/2″)
Condition – Good. The wheel still functions fully.
